In May a group of gym members travelled to Bali for a week of Yoga in the village of Penestanan, just out of Ubud.   Group Fitness Instructor, Margie, has been attending this retreat, “Artistry of the Soul” for the past six years and has been gradually introducing class members to the experience.  But this year outdid all expectations, with nine In Balance Fitness members enjoying the week!

Margie has been teaching Body Balance (a Yoga based class) at the gym for almost seven years and it has led to her becoming more and more interested in Yoga as a practice and a philosophy.  Attending “Artistry of the Soul” each year has deepened her practice and understanding of the Body Balance class.  She was so excited to be able to share this with gym members in 2014.

The timetable for the retreat allows for plenty of Yoga practice, along with free time to experience the many delights of Bali.  Massage was high on everyone’s agenda!  Some enjoyed shopping in Ubud, walks through the rice paddies, cooking classes, a bicycle trip, sampling the great local restaurants or just chilling out by the pool.

With two 1.5 hour Yoga sessions each day (8am to 9.30am and 4pm to 5.30pm) everyone experienced huge changes in the feeling of openness in their bodies.  Kathryn Riding is an amazing Yoga teacher with many years experience and all levels of Yoga practice were catered for in her class.  For those who wanted, there was also a half hour Meditation session at 8.30pm each night.

Those who made the trip have all expressed interest in going again.  They have returned with a deeper understanding of the poses in Body Balance as well as having had a fun and restorative holiday.

And Margie is already counting sleeps till “Artistry of the Soul 2015” 🙂
