The effects of poor posture are not just reflected in your mirror.  There is a lot of research showing that posture is a strong indicator of overall health.  I.e. POOR Posture = POOR Health!!

Figure 1 shows a neutral posture profile with a plumb line passing through the center of the ear, shoulder, hip, knee and just in front of the ankle.  In the typical Forward Head Posture profile (Figure 2), the head is in front of the plumb line.  Over time, this causes the upper back to drift backwards and the pelvis to tilt forward.

Besides the obvious physical changes of stooped shoulder,  belly “pooch” and inward shoulder rotation, things are happening on the inside we can’t see but can definitely feel.  The list of problems associated with poor posture is almost endless.

They include:

  • TMJ Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Tension Headaches
  • Pain between the shoulders
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Decreased Range of Motion
  • Low Back Pain
  • Hip Joint Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Foot Pain

Research includes:

SPINE, 2005

“All measure of health status showed signifiantly poorer scores as C7 plumb line deviation increased.”

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 2004

“Older men & women with hyperkyphotic posture have higher mortality rates.”

American Journal of Pain Management, 1994

“Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.”

The Journal of Neuroscience, 2007

“Bad posture could raise your blood pressure.  Study find neurolink between position of neck muscles and high blood pressure.”

The relentless pull of gravity, combined with work and play habits, means poor posture is not self-correcting.

Without intervention, this can lead to:

  • Chronic muscle tension
  • Loss of movement

  • Fatigue
  • Degenerative Joint Disease

  • Heart & Lung difficulties
  • plus a host of other problem

GREAT NEWS however….!

In many cases, the effects of poor posture can be stopped and even reversed.  Additional stress on muscles and joints can be reduced.  Your body can spend less energy on balance and more energy for the things you like to do.

If you or someone you know looks like Figure 2, ask today how a simple posture test can change your life….!

What is Posture Pro?

Our digital posture analysis software generates your Posture Number.   It represents the total deviations from points that a plumb line should pass through.

The higher the number, the more deviations from normal and the more spinal and pelvis compensations occurring, as the body shifts to re-balance itself.  This also equates to additional mechanical stress on the spine and additional gravitational forces and muscle tension.

Using the Posture Number, areas of additional stress can be identified and quantified.  Progress towards normal can also be tracked.
